Learn More about Sequoia National Park

Sequoia National Park is an American national park located in California, created and protected since 1890 by the federal government. It is part of the Sequoia and Kings Canyon Biosphere Reserve, recognized in 1976 by UNESCO. Home to some of the tallest trees in the world, Sequoia National Park is filled with magnificent trees that soar hundreds of feet, it's easy to feel small next to them. There are many activities offered besides admiring the flora of the park, you can explore caves, go hiking and snowshoeing when the weather is good. Moreover, the park is open every day of the year, and each season offers a new dimension to the landscape. The General's Highway is a beautiful forest road that crosses the park, from north to south, with some viewpoints. The visitor's center and the Giant forest museum are ideal for filling up on information about the sequoias. The park is full of small trails, often well laid out, and the most beautiful sequoias are only a few minutes walk away. And of course, the park is adjacent to Kings Canyon National Park, so you can visit both parks. Sherman Tree and Congress Trail is the must-do hike in Sequoia National Park! Access to the trailhead is from a parking lot on Wolverton Road. Within 15 minutes, the Sherman Tree stands before you: the largest single-trunk tree in the world, and thus considered the largest living organism in existence! With its 274.9 feet high (83.8 meters), it is almost 2200 years old. So much to say that it is really impressive. Then, you can continue on the Congress Trail, which makes a loop. This trail is very nice, and allows seeing a lot of emblematic and majestic sequoias: The President, Chief Sequoyah, The Senate, The House...enough to impress you! We advise you to start the hike early in the morning to take advantage of the quietness at the Sherman Tree, because after that it is generally overcrowded!
